Bright & Colorful Library In a Former Bar
Chicago | West TownHosted by Nell
The Space
This space is an independent, experimental library located in Chicago's vibrant Humboldt Park neighborhood and the only library of its kind in the world. Housed in a former neighborhood bar in a 100+ year old blonde brick Victorian, the library has two rooms: the reading room (600sq ft) and the exhibition room (1,000sq ft). Each room has exposed brick with colorful accent walls and exposed timber ceilings for an eclectic/industrial feel. The reading room also contains a fireplace and over 6,000 books, magazines, and community newspapers creating a unique library backdrop. In the exhibition room, you'll find tons of light, flexibility, and our new (well, 100+ years old) community letterpress! Furnishings in both space are flexible and can move, fold, or stack to get out of the way. Both spaces are on the ground floor and wheelchair (or heavy equipment) accessible. We have two restrooms as well as a catering-compliant kitchenette. Our space has been called “cozy and welcoming” by The Reader, and can easily accommodate corporate retreats, meetings, readings, performances, parties, meetups & more. It's also an ideal backdrop for film and television projects and even intimate weddings.
