Raw Historic Underground Gymnasium

This is a 2500 square foot gymnasium available for film shoots, photo shoots, arts rehearsals, and meetings. The room measures 50 feet long, 50 feet wide, and 13.5 feet high. The gymnasium, located beneath a church, was abandoned and ignored since the 1970s. From October 2018 through April 2019, the space was renovated and is now available for your use. Thus, the look of the space is raw and industrial, including a retro paint job, a wall of brick, old basketball hoops, and a tiled tin ceiling. The floor is the original concrete, currently not finished, with small pocks and unevenness throughout. One upper window in the gym is usually open, although it can be blocked for total darkness. This allows photo and video work to have total control over the lighting. The gym is equipped with a 5 ton central heating and cooling system, newly installed in 2020, to keep you chill all summer and cozy all winter. There are six electricity outlets in the gym, some with one socket, and some with as many as four sockets. One of these six outlets is a 220 volt outlet while the other five outlets support 110 volts. The space is equipped with a powerful WIFI network. Phone reception in the space is often weak, depending on your carrier. We offer a tall free-standing ladder, roughly 12 feet in height, to all renters. Photographers and videographers can use our ladder to capture overhead shots. All renters are able to use our collapsable movie screen and projector to stage their own film viewings. Our movie screen is approximately 22 feet by 12.5 feet. Our projector is a Panasonic VZ-580. Use of this equipment costs an additional fee. Renters are able to safely store their equipment in the space overnight. Renters are able to be in the space 24 hours, 7 days a week, with the exception of Sundays, 9am to 3:30pm. Note before renting that there are several times when church services are happening on the opposite side of the property. A food pantry and soup kitchen happens every Wednesday afternoon. Moderate to loud sound bleed happens during the following times: Wednesday from 9am to 5pm, the first Friday of every month from 5pm to midnight, and Sunday from 9am to 3pm. The venue has a seating capacity of 50. Please notify in advance so that the correct number of chairs can be set in place. If you need more than 10 chairs, the venue will ask a furniture fee. Additional tables are also available for a fee. We regret that at this time, our space does not offer wheelchair access. We’ve spent the last year restoring this basement from the 1800s, but we are not yet at the point where we can afford to build ramps or elevators. With your rentals, our budget will get there. Thank you for your patience. Keep in mind our special weekday morning rates. Between 4am and 9am, the space is available for $40 per hour. This is located on Bushwick Avenue near the Halsey J and Gates J stations, and a 12 minute walk from the Myrtle Wyckoff L / M station.

Raw Historic Surreal Locker Room

The locker room is a 1030 square foot historic set of 8 rooms available for film shoots, photo shoots, arts rehearsals, and meetings. The rooms, located beneath a church, were abandoned and ignored since the 1970s. From October 2018 through April 2019, the space was renovated and is now available for your use. Thus, the look of the space is raw and industrial. Most of the floors are concrete. The bathroom and shower room are tiled. Many of the walls have flaking paint jobs and weathered areas. There's exposed piping, wood beams, and unique materials and textures everywhere. A video tour of the venue is available here: https://youtu.be/-e4rTNrMufc The Shower Room has four brutal, beautiful vintage black shower stalls with working water spouts. The front door has a speakeasy style password window, which can be a fun prop for certain shoots and events. The space lets in very little daylight. The only window is in the bathroom, which does not open, and lets in a modest amount of daylight. This allows photo and video work to have total control over the lighting. During the winter, two 4800W heaters and one 1500W heater keep our rooms warm and cozy. During the summer, a 12000 BTU Fujitsu air conditioner keeps the rooms cool. There are newly installed power outlets in every room, each with two three-prong 110 volt sockets. There are ceiling lights in all of the rooms. Some of the lights are outfitted with edison bulbs for low mood lighting. Some of the lights are outfitted with bright fluorescent bulbs to allow sight. You are free to adjust the lighting as you see fit. The space is equipped with a powerful WIFI network. Phone reception in the space is often weak, depending on your carrier. The space is highly set designed because of a performance that regularly takes place there. Thus, this space is somewhat delicate and is not a good fit for all groups. For groups that would like to carefully utilize our set design for their own purposes, they are welcome to. In some of the rooms, the set design can easily be nudged to the side. For example, a table and chairs in one room can be moved to another. In other rooms, the set design will require more effort to move. Some modifications can be made and reset after you leave for a custom fee. Contact us to discuss. Renters are able to safely store their equipment in the space overnight. Dear friends and colleagues, Along with the rest of New York, our team has been working from home since mid-March. It has been an incredibly trying time for our community and we know first hand that the production and event industries have been hit uncommonly hard by the effects of the COVID-19 outbreak. While we have not been able to be onsite in the studios, we are looking forward to getting back to work as soon as we are able to in the safest manner possible. In order to make sure that we are operating our studios in a safe and healthful manner for our returning clients we are making a few necessary improvements and updates. - Additional hand washing stations are being installed in each studio. - All sinks (kitchens and bathrooms) will be retrofit with contactless faucets. - Increased wifi bandwidth will be available, up to 10 Gbps for remote videoconferencing needs for both events and productions. - Daily intensive cleanings of both studios. We know that we may not be getting back to any kind of a normal schedule anytime soon, but we are focused on serving you, our community, as best we can when given the opportunity. In this unique loft conversion almost every piece of furniture you see is an original design or an antique that has been heavily modified and restored. Full working kitchen. 150W HiFi Sound system connects directly to your phone or computer via headphone jack or Bluetooth. HD video projection on to 7ft x 4ft screen via HDMI, Thunderbolt or Display Port from your laptop or phone. Three friendly cats remain on premises but our Alen Breathesmart Air Purifier runs 24/7, eliminating dander from the air. Allergens have never posed a problem. Elegant and Storied Bookstore in NoMad

We are a bookstore located just three blocks north of Madison Square Park and steps away from myriad cultural destinations. Our 5,000 square foot space occupies the ground-floor level of the historic St. James Building, dating back to the early 19th century. The bookstore boasts an imposing 18' tall by 34' wide glass façade that showcases the interior's eighteen-foot ceilings, a dramatic peaked skylight, and an expansive windowed salon entered via an striking red mullioned pivot door. Fixtures include cherry wood bookcases and grand brass and iron chandeliers. Our wallpaper was designed exclusively for us by Fornasetti Milano. The designs run as a frieze above the bookcases to the ceiling in all three grand rooms of the store, and feature surreal motifs of Italian cities floating in the clouds, hot air balloons, Zodiac figures and the classic Fornasetti collage of newspaper fragments overlaid with colorful butterflies. The bookstore is available for a wide range of private events, including book parties, cocktail receptions, seated dinners, press events, film & photo shoots, and more. The elegant and airy Salon, our main event space, can accommodate 150-200 people, depending on configuration. The adjacent Skylight Room may also be rented if more space is needed. The bookstore is also available for a full buyout and can accommodate 300-400 guests.
