We are a nonprofit arts organization located in DUMBO, Brooklyn. Our mission is to nurture and support emerging, under-recognized mid-career and women artists in the creation and exhibition of new work, by providing exhibition opportunities, studio workspace, and access to equipment and technical assistance for the realization of ambitious projects.

The Space

Situated on the waterfront in the vibrant neighborhood of Dumbo, our space offers a truly unique venue for private parties and corporate events. The building is across the street from the picturesque Manhattan Bridge. Located in the recently renovated “Boiler Building”, the gallery is an especially exciting space with tremendous architectural elements. The 6,000 square foot gallery boasts a ceiling that soars to 35 feet. There are 25 windows on two levels providing beautiful light and a spectacular view. The rental is for the 12-hour minimum period. The space includes dimming overhead lights, restrooms, and a separate prep area with an electric stove, sink and refrigerator. Smack Mellon does not provide any rental equipment or catering services. Clients can choose to either work with our favorite vendors below or others, subject to approval. Monday— Thursday: $4,000 ($3,000 is a tax-deductible membership fee + $1,000 rental fee) Friday: $5,000 ($4,000 is a tax-deductible membership fee + $1,000 rental fee) Saturday: $7,000 ($5,000 is a tax-deductible membership fee + $2,000 rental fee) Sunday: $6,000 ($5,000 is a tax-deductible membership fee + $1,000 rental fee) Please note that events with more than 74 people in the event space will require a TPA (Temporary Place of Assembly Certificate of Operation). An additional fee of $2,000 will be required to accompany these rates for any events requiring a TPA, to cover the costs incurred by filing for this certificate and for employing mandatory fireguards.
