This striking space is part of a 16-unit complex designed between 1926 and 1939 by R.M. Schindler​, one of the forefathers of Modern architecture, on a street-to-street downward sloping lot in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles. Schindler’s client for the project was his friend Herman Sachs, a Romanian-born muralist and decorator known for his work on the Bullocks Wilshire Building, Union Station, and City Hall. Synonymous with old Hollywood glamour, the apartment at this Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument feels like being in a bygone era. It’s an inspiring space, with improbably high ceilings and a huge window showcasing the unobstructed views overlooking Los Feliz, the iconic Hollywood sign, and the Griffith Observatory. The space employs extensive use of glass, plaster, and wood – characteristics of the Modernist style with which Schindler is usually associated – in addition to a distinctive art deco flair. Sachs was known for using his studio loft workspace as a gathering space, often hosting dinners and concerts for his coterie of bohemian friends. During a painstaking three year restoration, the original cabinetry, finishes, and Schindler-designed furniture were carefully researched and, wherever possible, restored or re-created. The first floor space has an airy, open concept living/dining room and full kitchen, in addition to a half bath and large closet/storage space (in addition to a Origin Acoustics 7.1 surround-sound speaker system with six recessed speakers and subwoofer, Paradigm soundbar, high-end projector, and hanging art installation system. Use of these features may be possible, depending on the intended usage). The second floor space has a sleeping space with daybed, full bathroom, and entryway/office that is ideal for hair and makeup. Schindler was a genius at window placement - natural light streams throughout every nook and cranny of the apartment. The Platform Home designed furniture (tables, stacking chairs, couch, hexagon seater, stools, daybed, etc.) has been selected for easy breakdown or reconfiguration, making the apartment an ideal setting for a multitude of shoots and events.

Following that storied use of the building and for the next twenty-five years, the building was a violin factory producing thousands of violins and violas for schools throughout the country. In 1967, some fifty years ago, Costume Designer Rita Riggs purchased the building and made it her studio for her work with everyone from Alfred Hitchcock to Norman Lear and many, many more in between. Rita predated the current interest in Shared Community Office space by offering space to a select group of design professionals that understood her passion and talent for high design and an interest in making a true community out of the workplace. Organically, gracefully and with no pretense, Rita was way, way, way, ahead of her time. Recently, the building was painstakingly restored to its former glory by Architects who are 30 year inhabitants of the this very special building. We spent years renovating this classic bow truss warehouse into our creative office space and venue. Our office is the headquarters of our other companies, but we always knew that we wanted to rent out the space. That's why we built it with versatility in mind. We didn't want to only have parties or only photo shoots here. We wanted dynamic people to be able to come use our space for all kinds of happenings: brand launches, corporate parties, offsite meetings, panel discussions, even weddings! The building has 2000 sq feet of indoor space and an additional 3000 square foot garden outside. Inside is polished concrete floors, freshly painted white brick walls, raw original bow truss ceiling and beams criss cross above. Massive rolling barn doors let in tons of light and make load ins and outs very easy. Oversized skylights bathe the space in natural light. Outside there are plants growing on all the walls and hanging off the awning creating a lush, private green space. Shade sails and twinkle lights are strung above making the garden pretty legit for either daytime or evening gatherings. Some unique things: on site services from the companies who inhabit the building are available as are recommendations of preferred vendors for catering, bartending, florals, lighting, valet, live music, etc. Random questions we get asked: there are two single occupancy bathrooms. We have a projector with an 18 foot screen. It's run through a 4k Apple TV with surround sound. Yes there is a built in DJ booth. The conference room, main area, and garden are all available for rentals. Our little executive office on the mezzanine level is not. For locations managers: there are multiple crew parking lots in either direction, one right across the street. Pictures are pretty good, but a walk through is always better.
