Raw Historic Surreal Locker Room

New York | Bushwick

The locker room is a 1030 square foot historic set of 8 rooms available for film shoots, photo shoots, arts rehearsals, and meetings. The rooms, located beneath a church, were abandoned and ignored since the 1970s. From October 2018 through April 2019, the space was renovated and is now available for your use. Thus, the look of the space is raw and industrial. Most of the floors are concrete. The bathroom and shower room are tiled. Many of the walls have flaking paint jobs and weathered areas. There's exposed piping, wood beams, and unique materials and textures everywhere. A video tour of the venue is available here: https://youtu.be/-e4rTNrMufc The Shower Room has four brutal, beautiful vintage black shower stalls with working water spouts. The front door has a speakeasy style password window, which can be a fun prop for certain shoots and events. The space lets in very little daylight. The only window is in the bathroom, which does not open, and lets in a modest amount of daylight. This allows photo and video work to have total control over the lighting. During the winter, two 4800W heaters and one 1500W heater keep our rooms warm and cozy. During the summer, a 12000 BTU Fujitsu air conditioner keeps the rooms cool. There are newly installed power outlets in every room, each with two three-prong 110 volt sockets. There are ceiling lights in all of the rooms. Some of the lights are outfitted with edison bulbs for low mood lighting. Some of the lights are outfitted with bright fluorescent bulbs to allow sight. You are free to adjust the lighting as you see fit. The space is equipped with a powerful WIFI network. Phone reception in the space is often weak, depending on your carrier. The space is highly set designed because of a performance that regularly takes place there. Thus, this space is somewhat delicate and is not a good fit for all groups. For groups that would like to carefully utilize our set design for their own purposes, they are welcome to. In some of the rooms, the set design can easily be nudged to the side. For example, a table and chairs in one room can be moved to another. In other rooms, the set design will require more effort to move. Some modifications can be made and reset after you leave for a custom fee. Contact us to discuss. Renters are able to safely store their equipment in the space overnight. Renters are able to be in the space 24 hours, 7 days a week, with the exception of Sundays, 9am to 3:30pm. Our venue has a large selection of in-house photo and video gear. For additional add-on fees, renters may use: - Impact VC-500WLN 3-500Ws Digital Monolight with Transmitter Kit /// 3 x Monolights /// 3 x White Reflective Umbrella with Permanent Black Backing /// 1 x Wireless Transmitter /// 1 x Softbox with Speedring (24 x 36") - Bi-color LED modeling light - Softbox (20x20") with 500W Tungsten Photoflood Bulb - C-stand (10.75’) - 6" Backlight Light with 100W bulb - Vanguard Alta Pro 2+ tripod - Universal Filter Holder (12x12") - Filter Gels (Rosco CalColor Kit 12" x 12", 33 sheets) - Bi-color on-camera light - 2 sandbags (20 lb and 15 lb) - 2 x pedestal fans (18" and 16") - set of four apple boxes We regret that at this time, our space does not offer wheelchair access. We’ve spent the last year restoring this basement from the 1800s, but we are not yet at the point where we can afford to build ramps or elevators. With the help of your rentals, our budget will get there. Thank you for your patience. Keep in mind our special weekday morning rates. Between 4am and 9am, the space is available for $40 per hour. The locker room is located on Bushwick Avenue near the Halsey J and Gates J stations, and a 12 minute walk from the Myrtle Wyckoff L / M station. This is a 2500 square foot gymnasium available for film shoots, photo shoots, arts rehearsals, and meetings. The room measures 50 feet long, 50 feet wide, and 13.5 feet high. The gymnasium, located beneath a church, was abandoned and ignored since the 1970s. From October 2018 through April 2019, the space was renovated and is now available for your use. Thus, the look of the space is raw and industrial, including a retro paint job, a wall of brick, old basketball hoops, and a tiled tin ceiling. The floor is the original concrete, currently not finished, with small pocks and unevenness throughout. A video tour of the venue is available here: https://youtu.be/-e4rTNrMufc The space lets in very little daylight. One upper window in the gym is usually open, although it can be blocked for total darkness. This allows photo and video work to have total control over the lighting. The gym is equipped with a 5 ton central heating and cooling system, newly installed in 2020, to keep you chill all summer and cozy all winter. There are six electricity outlets in the gym, some with one socket, and some with as many as four sockets. For rental is a 1670 square foot set of three rooms, centered around a classroom equipped with photography gear. This space is available for photo and film shoots, as well as rehearsals and small events. The Classroom is 855 square feet total, measuring roughly 36 feet long, 25 feet wide, and 9 feet high. Its shape is a rectangle with one small corner omitted. This room was most likely formerly used as a Sunday School classroom, as it is located underneath a church. Upon one wall is a chalkboard, always stocked with new white and colored chalk and an eraser. Feel free to erase and draw your own creations. Two of the walls are beautifully aged with revealed bricks peeking from beneath a retro blue paint job. The floor is combination of tan tiles and the black basement foundation beneath. The ceiling is composed of tiled tin and exposed pipes. There's a door leading to the backyard. Three windows let in a significant amount of daylight. Six new fluorescent ceiling lights fill the room with bright light, or you can keep them off and let the photography gear do the illuminating. All renters have free access to our gear: - Impact VC-500WLN 3-500Ws Digital Monolight with Transmitter Kit /// 3 x Monolights /// 3 x White Reflective Umbrella with Permanent Black Backing /// 1 x Wireless Transmitter /// 1 x Softbox with Speedring (24 x 36") - Polevault with paper backdrops (12.6' width) - White, black, green, navy, and charcoal backdrop paper - Bi-color LED modeling light - Softbox (20x20") with 500W Tungsten Photoflood Bulb - C-stand (10.75’) - 6" Backlight Light with 100W bulb - Vanguard Alta Pro 2+ tripod - Universal Filter Holder (12x12") - Filter Gels (Rosco CalColor Kit 12" x 12", 33 sheets) - DOSS Bluetooth speaker - Bi-color on-camera light - 2 sandbags (20 lb and 15 lb) - Fog machine with fog liquid (1100W) - 2 x pedestal fans (18" and 16") - 1 commercial clothing rack with 15 hangers - set of four apple boxes - printer (OfficeJet 3830) - clothing steamer - iron and portable ironing surface In addition to the Classroom, which is the heart of this venue, we have a backyard and an unfinished back hallway. The backyard is roughly 600 square feet, measuring 45 feet long and 13.5 feet wide, its shape curving slightly. We have big plans to make the Backyard an elaborate and beautiful setting. For now, it is has plenty of everyday grit and neighborhood magic in its visuals. The back hallway has a dim and creepy atmosphere, with little nooks of wood, dirt, and concrete, plus a stairway. The hall is roughly 215 square feet, measuring 27 feet long by 8 feet wide and 7 feet high, with height variances at the two staircases. The classroom is equipped with a 15,000 BTU Frigidaire window air conditioner to keep you cool in the summer and a 10,000W Dr. Heater to keep you cozy all winter. There are three electric outlets in the classroom. One wall of sockets, plus the ceiling lights, are powered by one 20 amp circuit. The final outlet is powered by a separate 20 amp circuit. The room comes permanently equipped with two extension cords and two power strips. Each of the power strips has 10 three-prong outlets and 4 USB inputs. The space is equipped with a powerful WIFI network. All renters are able to rent our Panasonic VZ-580 video projector and project it onto the wall, or onto the white paper backdrop. Use of this equipment costs an additional fee. Renters are able to safely store their equipment in the space overnight. Depending on the availability of our staff, renters are able to be in the space 24 hours, 7 days a week, with the exception of Sundays, 9am to 3:30pm. The classroom is furnished with two folding chairs, a vintage velvet loveseat, and a table. There is access to a bathroom with 3 stalls and one sink. The venue has a capacity of 20. We regret that at this time, our space does not offer wheelchair access. We’ve spent the last year restoring this basement from the 1800s, but we are not yet at the point where we can afford to build ramps or elevators. With the help of your rentals, our budget will get there. Thank you for your patience. Our space is more popular on Saturdays, and so you will notice that our hourly rate on Saturday is higher. This difference is intentional. This is located on Bushwick Avenue near the Halsey J and Gates J stations, and a 12 minute walk from the Myrtle Wyckoff L / M station.
